A house becomes a home with your skilled touch and creative vision. Our Interior Design Course gives you all of the training and skills you need to create beautiful and comfortable homes.
The Interior Design Course is delivered online and consists of 12 modules and 12 assignments. You can study in your own time and at your own pace. The average time required to complete the course is 24 weeks. However, we provide students with 12 months. Extensions can be purchased if extra time is required.
The modules are designed to be read sequentially and will help build your knowledge to enable you to design a residential space.
There are exercises at the end of each module, which will require you to participate in the design experience. It is through participation and interaction that you will learn to feel confident and find your creative voice. The exercises are designed to help you build your first professional portfolio.
Each student will be given the same residential renovation tasks that will require them to upload new floor and lighting plans, suggest furnishings, fabrics, window treatments, lighting, upholstery and accessories, explore decoration and various design styles, provide colour schemes, upload mood boards, write quotations, prepare newspaper ads, write a scope of works for your contractors, provide a preliminary costing for your clients, etc.
As this is an online course, we understand that some of our students do not have access to real life renovations or clients, so each project completed throughout our course will be hypothetical.
Experience the transformation as your thoughts and opinions evolve while gaining more knowledge and skills. Enjoy the process of gaining skills that will enable you to communicate your untapped, creative potential.
All the learning is done online in that when you enrol, you receive a username and password, which enables you to log onto our secure student site. From there, you can download your first module, which you could liken to your textbook as it contains all the information you will need to complete assignment one. Each module is approximately 90 pages in length and is full of detailed, technical information delivered in a friendly, conversational manner that is easy to understand. The concepts are further explained by way of diagrams, images and examples.
Once you have completed your assignment (some are just theoretical, but the majority of assignments combine both theory and fun practical tasks), you then upload it onto our site for your tutor to mark. The tutors will give you a grade (out of 10) and a comprehensive evaluation of your work and ideas. Their feedback will help nurture and improve your skills each step of the way.
What makes The Interior Design Institute so unique is that throughout our course, you have access to the safety net and guidance of the Student Support team, who you can contact 24/7. It is not simply a case of giving you a textbook and off you go - far from it.
You also have direct contact with your personal tutor who guides you closely through each step of the course, offering personalised and specific constructive feedback on your submitted work. If you ever have any questions in relation to your course or assignments, all you need to do is send your tutor a quick message, and they will reply with an answer as soon as they can.
With this close mentorship, you will feel like your tutor is in the same room with you, and all this can be achieved from the comfort of your own home. That is the beauty of our course, which allows you to study when you like and at your own pace.
The tutors who work for us are not just teachers but the best working professionals in their field. By drawing on their knowledge, you will gain an edge that will help you realise your true potential.
We have a Facebook Group that we have exclusively designed for our students. This group contains thousands of our students from across the globe interacting with each other on all topics covered by our courses. It provides a great opportunity for students to meet fellow students from all over the world, ask questions, share knowledge and experiences, upload work, give and receive feedback, make new friends and talk everything interior design!
As I moved through the modules, I was posting some of my assignment outputs on my social media account. These were seen by one of my contacts who was then on the lookout for an Interior Designer. She reached me out by sending me an inquiry to design her coffee shop. Right there and then, I got my first actual client and I applied all the learnings I acquired from the respective modules I studied at that time. .
